Jaco is located in the province of Puntarenas in Costa Rica. It is one of the most visited destinations in our country and very popular for surfers. In fact, the important events related to this exciting sport is organized, such as the World Surfing Games Costa Rica 2009.

Jaco is a coastal village that belongs to Garabito with about 7,000 inhabitants. Today, tourism is the main economic activity in the region, but in the past was a town dedicated to fishing and any derivative of the sea

This destination has increased in the last decade and has become one of the tourist spots structured in Costa Rica, where the investment took place. You now have a variety of hotels and beach resorts as well as many clubs and restaurants. These marks Jaco is one of the most diverse environments of our beautiful country night.


As nearby Jaco may include: Quepos (45 min), Manuel Antonio (1 hour), Alajuela (2 hours), Arenal (3.5 hours), Puntarenas (1.5 hours) and Monteverde (3.5 hours).


Jaco Beach has an international reputation today. It is near the pristine beach called Playa Hermosa, which hosted the 2009 Surf Championship. Jaco Beach offers a steady rise 3-4 meters high.

Jaco is seen as a sun and beach destination, but also has a variety of outdoor activities and adventure for all the world like the Botanical Gardens, Canopy, ATV tour, horseback riding, and of course, all kinds surf lessons. All this in just 1.5 hours from the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose and the International Airport Juan Santamaria.

Marlin:  One of the most spectacular fighting sportfish in the world, nearly every angler aspires to hook and boat one of these challenging fish that can reach proportions exceeding several hundred pounds.  Blue and Black Marlin are the most abundant with fish averaging over 200 pounds.  Larger specimens may exceed 600 pounds.  Striped Marlin are also available. The best months for Marlin are from January through September.

Sailfish:  An equally challenging fish to land is the sailfish.  Although generally smaller in size than marlin, the sport of fighting a sailfish is no less challenging. Sailfish are available all year, but are most prevalent from December through May.

 


Dorado
(Mahi Mahi):  Considered one of the finest eating sportfish, the Dorado can also offer plenty of excitement while fishing for marlin and other species.  Hawaiians call this fish Mahi Mahi.  No matter what you choose to call this fish, it provides gourmet table fare.

 


Tuna
:  A real prize for table fare, there are several species of tuna available in the area.  Yellowfin tuna are very abundant and available all year.  Tuna is this region can easily reach well over 100 pounds and range up to 300 pounds. Sometimes called Ahi, yellowfin tuna is considered excellent table fare and is often used for sushi after proper processing.


Roosterfish: 
Considered a hard fighting fish, the Roosterfish is not considered good table fare.  Consequently, this fish is treated as a catch and release species.  These fish often reach up to 90 pounds and offer an excellent sporting adventure.

 

Wahoo:  Known for being very fast when hooked, and are only caught occasionally.  This fish makes excellent table fare!
